Egyptian Scholar Honored as Libya Int’l Quran Award’s Personality of Year

IQNA – Abdul Karim Saleh, head of the Al-Azhar Quran Review Committee, was introduced and honored as the Quranic Personality of the Year at Libya’s 13th International Quran Award.

Saleh, who also heads the judging panel of the Port Said International Quran Competition in Egypt, was honored by the organizing committee of the Libyan Quranic event as the Quranic personality of the year 2025 in recognition of his extensive efforts to serve the Quran and spread Quranic sciences in Egypt and the Arab and Islamic world.

Saleh has held several prestigious positions in the service of the Holy Quran and its sciences.  

He is a professor of Tafsir (interpretation), Quranic sciences and recitations at the Faculty of the Holy Quran at Al-Azhar University, and previously headed the Tafsir, Quranic Sciences and Recitations Department at this faculty.

Saleh is one of the most prominent scholars participating in the judging panels of international Quran competitions in Egypt and other countries, and has represented Al-Azhar in major international contests, including those held in Mecca, Dubai, Bahrain, Libya and Sudan.

This Egyptian scholar has supervised dozens of academic theses at universities in Egypt and other Arab countries and is a member of the committees for issuing recitation licenses and the editorial board of specialized journals on Quranic sciences, which has made him one of the prominent contemporary figures in this field.

According to Adel Musalhi, an Egyptian media activist, this success represents a great progress in the Port Said international Quran competition and demonstrates the standing of the jury of this contest, which is made up of Quranic figures with a high level of experience and knowledge.

He emphasized that the selection of Abdel Karim Saleh further consolidates and enhances the global standing of this competition.

It is worth mentioning that the ninth edition of the Port Said International Quran Memorization and Recitation Competition will be held from January 30 to February 2, 2026.

This edition of the Quranic event has been named after late Egyptian qari Sheikh Mahmoud Ali Al-Banna.
